Jane Doe, M.D. v. Black Management Co., Red Manufacturing Co., Blue Leasing Co.

Resolution Date:
June 2005
Practice Areas:
Premises Liability, Products Liability
Synopsis:
Jane Doe sued the defendants because of injuries that she suffered while descending a staircase designed, manufactured, owned, and maintained by the defendants. While descending the staircase, Jane Doe caught her wedding ring on a screw affixed to a warning sign. Because of her ring catching on the screw, plaintiff slipped and fell, traumatically amputating and degloving her left ring finger from her hand. Surgeons reattached Jane Doe's finger. However, she suffers from permanent swelling, stiffness, hypersensitivity, and numbness in the reattached finger, as well as loss of grip strength in her left hand. The injury forced her to substantially alter her medical career from surgeon to researcher. She further alleged she never regained full use of her left hand and was in constant pain, exacerbated by activity and contact with objects. The matter settled before trial.
